Monday Ice: Fragments of Iceland

My residency visa in Iceland has just been renewed for another year and I have now been living here for just over 18 months.  Over the last few days I have been reflecting on how I feel about this major sea change.  I am a little surprised that I feel very much at home here and have not had any regrets about leaving my birth land.  When I left I had told myself to expect and be aware that I may feel an intense longing for Australia and suffer acute homesickness as many migrants do once they leave their homeland...but for me this has not been the case.  Perhaps this will change as time goes on and I will feel differently,  of course I miss my family and friends but the world is a small place and Skype is a wondrous thing.   From my very first visit in July 2009 Iceland got under my skin and I felt a deep-rooted sense of belonging here.

So for Monday Ice today I leave you with a lovely little video that so aptly describes how I feel about Iceland.

  2. Thanks so much for your thoughts Jon. I definitely feel that I am entering a new phase with nearing the final stages of renovations and setting up the new business.
