Monday Ice

I constantly feel a little disorientated as my inner compass for the time of day is totally out of kilter.    In the past in Australia when I awoke, I could tell you if it was night or morning and always have been able to distinguish midday from midnight without the aid of a clock.  Here it is so different...day and night are constantly moving objects...and at times merge into one.

At the moment it is hard getting out of bed in the mornings, even though I am awake it is still very dark and it just feels so cosy under the covers, so I tend to stay longer than usual these days reading or on the laptop. Sunrise today is at 9.58 and sunset is at 16.07 when the first light appears and fades at dawn and dusk the time will be 8.53 and 17.12 respectively.

These are photos taken from my balcony at just after 8am today,
as you can see it is still dark
and the moon is very visible in this night/day sky.

The thing about Iceland even though I love the quiet gentle life sooo much, I also love the constant fast dramatic changes in the weather and the light...everytime I go for a walk it is a different experience.

I am feeling very much in wonder of the Icelandic environment at the moment and need to share the joy, so have decided to resurrect my Monday Ice posts for a time or whenever I come across something worth sharing.  This first film is part 1 of 4 videos by a German tourist/filmmaker Marco Asbach of Iceland during his visits in 2008 and 2009 and this one is of the Westfjords. I will intersperse his other films in the coming weeks on Monday Ice. Whilst he narrates in German there are English subtitles, although just over 15min long, I feel it is 15 mins well spent, hope you enjoy.

  1. Hi! I totally agree with you about the light - dark issue. I get to work and it´s barely light when I am almost done! But the good news is that the time passes so quickly that already from the Christmas it will get 1 minute lighter a day!
