Monday Ice: The people of Iceland invite you to...

There is a new tourist campaign going on in this country to encourage visitors to visit Iceland in the autumn/winter season.  It started in Oct and continues on through the winter and does seem to have captured the imagination of many Icelanders who wish to give you the visitor a more intimate experience whilst you are here.

The president of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson started off the campaign by asking fellow Icelanders to open up their homes to tourists.

And here is the presidents own invitation to tourists to visit his home for coffee and pancakes.

If you are thinking of visiting Iceland perhaps do it over the winter, flights and accommodation are always cheaper at this time of the year (especially before or just after the Christmas season).  But before you leave home check out this invitation page to see what is on offer if you want to know more about a particular invite click on the link see more and reply via the Facebook connect window.

This final little video is of the President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff with the twenty people who accepted their invitation to visit the Presidential home for coffee and pancakes at 4pm on November 11th 2011.  I am sure these tourists will have no trouble remembering what they did on the 11.11.11 in years to come.

  1. Whoa, awesome idea - tried to open the invitations page, but it was way over capacity and didn't load. Guess we're looking forward to some guests next year?

    xx
